The Reality

52 verses Meccan

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

verse 1

ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ

Translation: The Sure Reality

verse 2

مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ

Translation: What is the Sure Reality

verse 3

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ

Translation: And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is

verse 4

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ

Translation: The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity

verse 5

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ

Translation: But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning

verse 6

وَأَمَّا عَادࣱ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحࣲ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةࣲ

Translation: And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent

verse 7

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالࣲ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومࣰ اۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةࣲ

Translation: He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down

verse 8

فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةࣲ

Translation: Then seest thou any of them left surviving

verse 9

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ

Translation: And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin

verse 10

فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةࣰ رَّابِيَةً

Translation: And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty

verse 11

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ

Translation: We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark)

verse 12

لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةࣰ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنࣱ وَٰعِيَةࣱ

Translation: That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance

verse 13

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةࣱ وَٰحِدَةࣱ

Translation: Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet

verse 14

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةࣰ وَٰحِدَةࣰ

Translation: And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke

verse 15

فَيَوۡمَئِذࣲ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ

Translation: On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass

verse 16

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ وَاهِيَةࣱ

Translation: And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy

verse 17

وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ ثَمَٰنِيَةࣱ

Translation: And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them

verse 18

يَوۡمَئِذࣲ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةࣱ

Translation: That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden

verse 19

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ

Translation: Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record

verse 20

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ

Translation: I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me

verse 21

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةࣲ رَّاضِيَةࣲ

Translation: And he will be in a life of Bliss

verse 22

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةࣲ

Translation: In a Garden on high

verse 23

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةࣱ

Translation: The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near

verse 24

كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَآ أَسۡلَفۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَيَّامِ ٱلۡخَالِيَةِ

Translation: Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone

verse 25

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي لَمۡ أُوتَ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ

Translation: And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me

verse 26

وَلَمۡ أَدۡرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهۡ

Translation: And that I had never realised how my account (stood)

verse 27

يَٰلَيۡتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلۡقَاضِيَةَ

Translation: Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me

verse 28

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهۡۜ

Translation: Of no profit to me has been my wealth

verse 29

هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلۡطَٰنِيَهۡ

Translation: My power has perished from me

verse 30

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ

Translation: (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him

verse 31

ثُمَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ

Translation: And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire

verse 32

ثُمَّ فِي سِلۡسِلَةࣲ ذَرۡعُهَا سَبۡعُونَ ذِرَاعࣰ ا فَٱسۡلُكُوهُ

Translation: Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits

verse 33

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

Translation: This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High

verse 34

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

Translation: And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent

verse 35

فَلَيۡسَ لَهُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ هَٰهُنَا حَمِيمࣱ

Translation: So no friend hath he here this Day

verse 36

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنۡ غِسۡلِينࣲ

Translation: Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds

verse 37

لَّا يَأۡكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡخَٰطِـُٔونَ

Translation: Which none do eat but those in sin

verse 38

فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَا تُبۡصِرُونَ

Translation: So I do call to witness what ye see

verse 39

وَمَا لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ

Translation: And what ye see not

verse 40

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولࣲ كَرِيمࣲ

Translation: That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger

verse 41

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَاعِرࣲۚ قَلِيلࣰ ا مَّا تُؤۡمِنُونَ

Translation: It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe

verse 42

وَلَا بِقَوۡلِ كَاهِنࣲۚ قَلِيلࣰ ا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Translation: Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive

verse 43

تَنزِيلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ

Translation: (This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds

verse 44

وَلَوۡ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيۡنَا بَعۡضَ ٱلۡأَقَاوِيلِ

Translation: And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name

verse 45

لَأَخَذۡنَا مِنۡهُ بِٱلۡيَمِينِ

Translation: We should certainly seize him by his right hand

verse 46

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعۡنَا مِنۡهُ ٱلۡوَتِينَ

Translation: And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart

verse 47

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنۡ أَحَدٍ عَنۡهُ حَٰجِزِينَ

Translation: Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath)

verse 48

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذۡكِرَةࣱ لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ

Translation: But verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing

verse 49

وَإِنَّا لَنَعۡلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ

Translation: And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it)

verse 50

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسۡرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ

Translation: But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers

verse 51

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ

Translation: But verily it is Truth of assured certainty

verse 52

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

Translation: So glorify the name of thy Lord Most High
