بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

verse 1

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ

Translation: By the Star when it goes down

verse 2

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ

Translation: Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled

verse 3

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ

Translation: Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire

verse 4

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡيࣱ يُوحَىٰ

Translation: It is no less than inspiration sent down to him

verse 5

عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ

Translation: He was taught by one Mighty in Power

verse 6

ذُو مِرَّةࣲ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ

Translation: Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form)

verse 7

وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ

Translation: While he was in the highest part of the horizon

verse 8

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ

Translation: Then he approached and came closer

verse 9

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَيۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ

Translation: And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer

verse 10

فَأَوۡحَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَآ أَوۡحَىٰ

Translation: So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey

verse 11

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰٓ

Translation: The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw

verse 12

أَفَتُمَٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ

Translation: Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw

verse 13

وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ

Translation: For indeed he saw him at a second descent

verse 14

عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ

Translation: Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass

verse 15

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰٓ

Translation: Near it is the Garden of Abode

verse 16

إِذۡ يَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا يَغۡشَىٰ

Translation: Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable)

verse 17

مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ

Translation: (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong

verse 18

لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ

Translation: For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest

verse 19

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱللَّٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ

Translation: Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza

verse 20

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰٓ

Translation: And another, the third (goddess), Manat

verse 21

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ

Translation: What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female

verse 22

تِلۡكَ إِذࣰ ا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِيزَىٰٓ

Translation: Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair

verse 23

إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّآ أَسۡمَآءࣱ سَمَّيۡتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَٰنٍۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ

Translation: These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord

verse 24

أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ

Translation: Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after

verse 25

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ

Translation: But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong

verse 26

۞وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِي شَفَٰعَتُهُمۡ شَيۡـًٔا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن يَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرۡضَىٰٓ

Translation: How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after Allah has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him

verse 27

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ تَسۡمِيَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ

Translation: Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names

verse 28

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَيۡـࣰٔ ا

Translation: But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth

verse 29

فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ يُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا

Translation: Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world

verse 30

ذَٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ

Translation: That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His Path, and He knoweth best those who receive guidance

verse 31

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِيَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى

Translation: Yea, to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best

verse 32

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰٓ

Translation: Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil

verse 33

أَفَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ

Translation: Seest thou one who turns back

verse 34

وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِيلࣰ ا وَأَكۡدَىٰٓ

Translation: Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)

verse 35

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰٓ

Translation: What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see

verse 36

أَمۡ لَمۡ يُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ

Translation: Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses

verse 37

وَإِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلَّذِي وَفَّىٰٓ

Translation: And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements

verse 38

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ

Translation: Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another

verse 39

وَأَن لَّيۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ

Translation: That man can have nothing but what he strives for

verse 40

وَأَنَّ سَعۡيَهُۥ سَوۡفَ يُرَىٰ

Translation: That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight

verse 41

ثُمَّ يُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَآءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ

Translation: Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete

verse 42

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ

Translation: That to thy Lord is the final Goal

verse 43

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ

Translation: That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears

verse 44

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡيَا

Translation: That it is He Who granteth Death and Life

verse 45

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ

Translation: That He did create in pairs,- male and female

verse 46

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ

Translation: From a seed when lodged (in its place)

verse 47

وَأَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ

Translation: That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead)

verse 48

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ

Translation: That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction

verse 49

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ

Translation: That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star)

verse 50

وَأَنَّهُۥٓ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ

Translation: And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people)

verse 51

وَثَمُودَاْ فَمَآ أَبۡقَىٰ

Translation: And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life

verse 52

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ

Translation: And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors

verse 53

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ

Translation: And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah)

verse 54

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ

Translation: So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up

verse 55

فَبِأَيِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ

Translation: Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about

verse 56

هَٰذَا نَذِيرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ

Translation: This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old

verse 57

أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةُ

Translation: The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh

verse 58

لَيۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ

Translation: No (soul) but Allah can lay it bare

verse 59

أَفَمِنۡ هَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ

Translation: Do ye then wonder at this recital

verse 60

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ

Translation: And will ye laugh and not weep

verse 61

وَأَنتُمۡ سَٰمِدُونَ

Translation: Wasting your time in vanities

verse 62

فَٱسۡجُدُواْۤ لِلَّهِۤ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ۩

Translation: But fall ye down in prostration to Allah, and adore (Him)
